General information

Information on pesticide active ingredients can be found using the PAN Pesticide Database Chemical search. Visit the site.

This page briefly describes the documentation available for this data set and provides links to more detailed information.

What is a Pesticide?
Provides general information on what pesticides are and how pesticide active ingredients differ from formulated pesticide products. Provides additional information on inert ingredients and links to other resources.

Chemical Identification
Describes and defines the types of information commonly used to identify pesticides, including names and synonyms, identifying numbers and codes, and use types.

Chemical Classification
Provides information about the chemical types of common classes of pesticides, and provides generic chemical structures for most classes of pesticides.

Parent and Related Chemicals
Defines the logic for combining chemicals into groups based on chemical similarity, creating a "parent" chemical and a group of related chemicals. Lists the types of chemical groups found in the database. Provides guidance on using these groupings to determine toxicological similarity of related chemicals to the parent chemical.
