Printing Information

Any of the pages from the PAN Pesticide Database can be printed if you wish. For best results:

  • To ensure that the full width of the page will be printed on a single page, go to Page Setup in the File menu and set the scaling to 75%.
  • Choose Print from the File menu.

Exporting Information

Data from any of the pages that are "List Views," with headings at the top of the page can be exported in a format that a spreadsheet program like Excel can read. To export data:
  • Choose Save As from the File menu in Explorer or Netscape.
  • In Microsoft Explorer select HTML Source as the format, name the file with a ".html" extension at the end of the filename, and save.
  • In Netscape Navigator or Communicator, select Source as the format, name the file with a ".html" extension at the end of the filename, and save.
  • You can now open the saved file from within Excel (or any other HTML-compatible program).
  • Microsoft Explorer users can also save as Web Archive which will save all formatting and images; we recommend using this option when it is not necessary to import the data into another program.

NOTE: As of 7/24/2002, the latest version of Excel for the Macintosh (OS X) will not open these files. Earlier versions of Excel will work.We think this is a bug in Excel and have requested that Microsoft look into it.

Working With the Information in Excel

To open the file, first open Excel and then use the File menu in Excel to Open the saved file that has the ".html" extension. Save the file with a ".xls" extension to ensure that Excel can read the file the next time you open it.

Because some of the table cells in the web pages are merged, it is helpful to un-merge them before trying to work with the data in Excel. To do this, select all of the cells that contain data, then go to the Format menu, and select Cells . . . Choose the Alignment tab and click the Merge cells box until it is empty, i.e., no hyphen nor checkmark in the box. Click OK to close the window.
